FORGIVE AND FORGET
As
the Second World War enters its final year, Ruth Bentley feels
life has dealt her more than her fair share of blows. For
the second time she has lost her home and all she possesses
in a bomb attack on Rotherhithe, and with her husband Alan
away fighting, her two daughters evacuated to Wales, and her
mother killed and father seriously injured in the attack,
Ruth is left to face the devastation alone.
But Ruth finds comfort in the camaraderie of
the Civil Defence office where she is a volunteer and in the
strong friendship she's formed with Lucy, a clippie on the
buses, who offers Ruth a home when her own is destroyed. But
as victory approaches and families everywhere attempt to return
to normality, Ruth discovers that the legacy of war is more
powerful than even she had imagined...
